YUMM - EEEE
Straight guys have the wierdest traditions...but god damn looking at these photos gave me a chubby! HA!
The Herndon Monument Climb traditionally marks the end of the freshman, or Plebe, year at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. The class, numbering over 1000, has a final challenge: scale the Herndon Monument, and replace the Plebe beanie at the top with a Midshipman's cap. The monument has been liberally coated with lard the evening before by upperclassmen, who also helpfully spray water on the plebes during the climb.

Simply some of the funniest TV I HAVE EVERRRRR SEEN!!!???? The Simple Life Goes To Camp Every Sunday night on E!
Oh Brit!
Britney took sometime out to address how she is feeling with all of us in a very long and honest letter on her website. I know you're asking yourself "Does she think we even care?" But YES we actually do. I hate to see anything awful happen to anyone no matter how much they put themselves in the situation; still not good to put out that kind of bad karma YA KNOW! We are only human ya'll! I just hope she does whatever she needs to so she can get her shit together and bring the old TOXIC IM A SLAVE FOR YOU BREATHE ON ME BRITNEY SPEARS BACK!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Fans,
I just wanted to reach out to all of you and explain some of the things that I have been faced with recently.
It's so funny how many stories are put out there about people. It's like we all want our side of the story out there as well, but at the end of the day only a few people care to hear what is really going on since the bad is always so much more interesting than the truth. I don't know why, but this is so weird to me. I used to be angry at the tabloids for printing horrible things about me, but now I try to just be numb to what I see. I saw Tyra Banks once get really upset and cry on her show because they made her look fat. We all want a certain image of ourselves out there, and at some point we all do really care what other people think or we wouldn't be here.
Recently, I was sent to a very humbling place called rehab. I truly hit rock bottom. Till this day I don't think that it was alcohol or depression. I was like a bad kid running around with ADD. I had a manager from a long time ago come in and try to direct me and my life after I got my divorce. I was so overwhelmed I think that I was in a little shock too. I didn't know who to go to. I realized how much energy and love I had put into my past relationship when it was gone because I genuinely did not know what to do with myself, and it made me so sad. I confess, I was so lost.
This letter is to not place blame on anyone, although I do see the world with a completely different set of eyes now. Being in that vulnerable state and taken to dinners and parties with friends and finding out later you paid for everything was a huge learning lesson for me. I think the whole problem was letting too many people into my life. You never know another persons intentions or what another person wants. I feel I was too open and looking for answers when I had it all to begin with. I have had to cut so many people out of my life. It is so sad, because if anyone is a family person...it is me. When I was little I remember every night watching movies with my family and feeling so at peace. Dancing and singing all the time just like a little girl should. Now recently I find with my children that I want them to have that feeling all of the time. I am having to face a lot of things right now since I have children of my own. A lot of insecurities from when I was little are coming up again. It is like we are never good enough.
I know everyone thinks that I am playing the victim, but I am not and I hate what is going on right now so much. Maybe this is the reason for this letter...to maybe allow people to look at me differently. It is like when you are a real woman and say what you feel and how you think things are supposed to be, that people just say you are a "bitch."
I feel like some of the people in my life made more of some issues than was necessary. I also feel like they knew I was beginning to use my brain for a change and cut some ties, so they wanted to be in more control of my life than me. I think it is actually normal for a young girl to go out after a huge divorce. I think it was a bigger issue because I had not gone out in such a long time. I am 25 and I do still have a lot to learn, and I am going to make mistakes everyday, and I am sure every mistake I make will probably be on CNN or Good Morning America. I am only human people and I love you for still loving me.
I am sitting here at home and it is 6:25 and both of my sons are asleep. I am truly blessed to have them in my life. Everyday is so surreal. Life in general is so surreal and crazy.
I just hope this letter made some of you think a little bit more of me and where I am coming from. I just want the same things in life that you want...and that is to be happy. It is just so weird because everyone has their own perception of me and how they think I really am. It is so weird how stories are told. There is your side, my side, and the truth. Somebody has to figure it out. I guess we will never really understand or figure out life completely. That's God's job. I can't wait to meet him...or her.
Love, Britney
Quote of the month...
It is ok to disagree with people regarding certain issues. You’re not being true to yourself if you succumb to others opinions because you feel guilty.
Left-Eye
This is sad and kind of scary. This is footage found in the car after Lisa "Left-Eye" Lopez and crew crashed in her fatal car accident. She was the only one who actually died as a result of the crash and she was the driver. This was featured on a VH1 special and you can now see it here. WARNING: The material is quite disturbing.
RIP Left Eye...you are missed!
MOSCOW — Police detained gay rights activists, among them European lawmakers, as they tried to present a letter to Moscow's mayor Sunday in a demonstration that also attracted a hostile crowd of people who punched and threw eggs at the activists.
The letter, signed by some 40 European lawmakers, appealed the city's ban on a march that would have taken place Sunday to mark the 14th anniversary of Russia decriminalizing homosexuality. Police quickly grabbed about a dozen demonstrators and forced them into a bus, including the Russian gay rights movement leader Nikolai Alexeyev. Police then hustled away others, including German parliament member Volker Beck, as opponents threw eggs and shouted: "Moscow is not Sodom!"
Marco Cappato, a European Parliament deputy from Italy, was kicked by one opponent as he spoke to journalists. Cappato began shouting: "Where are the police? Why don't you protect us?" and officers hauled him away as he struggled. The gay rights activists appeared to number fewer than 100, while roughly that many police were present. Cappato later told Italy's Sky TG24 that he had been released. He said that when he saw that Ottavio Marzocchi, an official with the Liberal Democrats in the European parliament, had come under attack, he began shouting and "within five seconds I was taken away by police in anti-riot gear." A total of 31 people were detained and most were later released, Moscow police spokesman Yevgeny Gildeyev said. He said two Italians were detained for jaywalking and a German was taken away by police to prevent him from being beaten. But Beck, who was later released, told The Associated Press police beat him and the others and seized their passports. Beck also denied the group was holding a demonstration, insisting they were only trying to hand over the letter.
Alexeyev said he and two other activists expected to be held until Monday, Ekho Moskvy radio reported. Cappato denied he had broken a traffic rule. "I was just trying to defend a friend from violent people because the police were not doing that," he said. The Interfax news agency quoted a Moscow city spokesman, Mikhail Solomentsev, as praising the "cooordinated and polite actions of the police, who acted in strict accordance with the law." Despite being decriminalized, homosexuality is still widely despised in Russia. Many of the gay rights opponents Sunday carried icons or other insignia of the Russian Orthodox Church, and one man wore the garb of an Orthodox priest. A woman in the headscarf typical of devout Orthodox believers repeatedly threw water from a bottle at Peter Tatchell, a British human rights activist, as he tried to speak. A young man in a camouflage T-shirt then punched Tatchell in the head and Tatchell was led away by police.
No gay rights opponents were seen taken away by police, though Gildeyev said a man was detained after attacking a Briton, presumably referring to Tatchell. The only Russian lawmaker to publicly state support for the demonstrators came from an unexpected wing: Alexei Mitrofanov of the ultranationalist Liberal Democratic Party. "How can one act in such a manner, assuming Russia wants to be a part of Europe?" Mitrofanov said at the scene, according to the Interfax news agency.
Lindsay is a HOTT mess!
Well we thought she was really trying after the trip to rehab but alas her movie career is down the shitter so she figured why not go down with it. Lindsay Lohan is making news again...get this - the bitch crashed her car, left the scene and the car, had a friend drive her to the hospital, and then was later charged at the hospital with a DUI! OYE! Whatever happened to the girl from Mean Girls...wait I just had a thought...a DUI and not EVEN 21!! HA! That's something her parents should be proud of...a true accomplishment! Get it together Linds!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Supplied by Perezhilton.com
Officers believe that Lindsay was speeding - under the influence of drugs/alcohol - and lost control of her car on Saturday morning. The car hit a crashed into a curb and a tree on Sunset Blvd, and Lohan was taken in another car to the Century City hospital.
Police received a 911 call about the accident after Lindsay abandoned her banged up Mercedes and fled the scene of the incident.
Officers "tracked Ms. Lohan to the local hospital, where she was ultimately placed under arrest" for investigation of misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Lohan was cited and released. She faces serious drama when the matter heads to court. In addition to the drunk driving dilemma, she will also face felony criminal charges for the illegal narcotics in her car.

Umm...
Is it just me or did the American Idol finale last night really suck some major ass! I mean from the ackward dance numbers, to the tribute to Sgt. Pepper (Rando!), to SANJAYA's tragic solo performance, to the most random musical guests who by the way DIDNT EVEN SING WITH ANY OF THE IDOLS...it was just plain BAD! The only good part of the show was Kelly Clarkson's rocking performance of NEVER AGAIN (she looked super butch, she better be careful about alienating her target demographic) and the amazing performance by Carrie Underwood of I'll Stand by you! Here is what they need to do next year...cut it down to an hour, have the FINALISTS perform, if you have a special guest on THEY SHOULD BE SINGING WITH THE IDOLS, and crown a winner...drop the long show, drop those stupid awards, and drop the lame BS that is considered "filler"...America is over it!
Congrats to Jordin...even though Blake will get a record deal and sell more records! :)

Long Beach Pride
Long Beach Pride slammed with a one and two this weekend. I had a super great time spending time with Wayne and his future husband Rapheal and his friends who live in Long Beach, Sean and Manny, who I have to thank for there incredible hospitality. We hit a few LB hot spots on Saturday night (Silver Fox & Club Ripples) and had a good ole drunk time. Sunday came (very early after only having 5 hours of sleep) and the boys and I headed to Ocean Blvd to join up with the DOT NEWS MAGAZINE crew to ride on the float in the ever so long pride parade...which I must say was one of the most thrilling experiences I have ever had in my life. The energy you get from all of those people, being around friends, laughing, dancing, the music; it just was incredible and then working the booth and pride and getting new people to read the magazine and meeting people who read the issue and enjoy what I write for it and the content of the magazine in general made me incredibly proud to be apart of such a great publication. Check us out online at dotnewsmagazine.com and be our MYSPACE friend at Myspace.com/DOTNEWSMAGAZINE
Here are some Pics from the weekend...ENJOY!

Oxygen wants more "Bad Girls" on the network.
The channel said Wednesday that it has ordered a six-episode spinoff of its top-rated reality series "The Bad Girls Club," from Bunim-Murray, along with a second season of the original show.
The spinoff, "Bad Girls Road Trip," begins shooting this spring for a June 12th debut. It will feature Season 1 housemates Leslie, Aimee and Zara as they meet each other's friends and family, visit the other "bad girls" in their hometowns and help cast the next season of the show. Casting events will be held in such cities as Atlanta, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Boston and Nashville.
Season 2, which is set for 22 episodes and a late-2007 premiere, will feature seven new "bad girls" -- those who lie, cheat and flirt their way out of trouble and have serious issues with other women -- living in a house together as they decide whether they want to change their behavior.
"Bad Girls" debuted in December and has become the network's highest-rated original series ever. The show airs regularly at 10 p.m. Tuesdays and will have its first-season finale May 1.

" 'The Bad Girls Club' is a bona fide hit -- our audience can't get enough of these women," said Debby Beece, president of programming and marketing at Oxygen.
Added Bunim-Murray's Jon Murray, exec producer of "Bad Girls": "Debby and her staff know their audience and have been incredibly helpful in making sure our show reverberates with them."

BravoTV.com will be home to a robust food and drink destination dedicated to "Top Chef” fans and foodies. Fans will feast on contestant profiles featuring bios, video interviews, questionnaires and photo galleries. The site will also be bringing back blogs from Colicchio, Lakshmi and Simmons, in addition to introducing new blogs from Allen and season two's runner-up Vigneron. Visitors can also "Rate The Plate” and vote for the dish they think deserves top honors each week, in addition to getting weekly cooking tips from Lakshmi and Colicchio. Those with an insatiable "Top Chef” appetite can catch interviews with special series guests in the return of "Watch What Happens,” a weekly, live-streaming, online program hosted by Bravo's own pop culture pundit Andy Cohen, Senior Vice President, Production and Programming and writer of the popular Andy's Blog. Still hungry? "Top Chef” season one star Lee Anne Wong returns with weekly online exclusive cooking webisodes entitled "The Wong Way To Cook,” teaching viewers how to make the winning recipe at home.
Lakshmi Bio: Actress, model, food expert, and award-winning cookbook writer, Lakshmi returns as host of "Top Chef 3 Miami,” introducing the challenges to the contestants and presiding over judges' table each week. Lakshmi's second cookbook, "Tangy, Tart, Hot & Sweet,” is a culinary endeavor of over 120 recipes from around the world and intriguing personal memoirs and is due in October 2007 from Weinstein Books. This is a follow up to her successful first cookbook, "Easy Exotic,” for which she won the International Versailles Event for best cookbook by a first time writer. Lakshmi hosted "Padma's Passport” on The Food Network, cooking diverse and low-fat cuisine based on those recipes from her first cookbook. Lakshmi also hosted the documentary series "Planet Food” for The Food Network and worldwide Discovery Channel, in which she journeyed the world for exotic cuisine.
Colicchio Bio: Colicchio is the chef and owner of Craft, Craftbar and Craftsteak in New York; Craft Dallas; Craftsteak Las Vegas; and 'wichcraft in New York, San Francisco and Las Vegas. He's the former chef and co-owner of Gramercy Tavern in New York, and is soon opening Craft Los Angeles (2007) and Craft at the Mansion on Peachtree in Atlanta (2008). Colicchio is the recipient of a three-star review for Craft restaurant from The New York Times and three James Beard Awards. He is the author of two cookbooks and is currently at work on a 'wichcraft sandwich book.
Simmons Bio: Simmons lends her strong culinary expertise as a judge and critic for Bravo's "Top Chef,” and will taste and critique the competing chefs' creations each week alongside judge Colicchio. Simmons has been with Food & Wine since 2004, currently in charge of special projects for the epicurean magazine. In this role, Simmons oversees the brand's signature event, the Food & Wine Magazine Classic in Aspen, which will celebrate its 25th year next June. In addition, she works on the magazine's chef-related events and programs.
Allen Bio: Allen is the food and wine specialist on the Emmy Award-winning Bravo hit "Queer Eye,” where he helps guests and viewers sharpen their cooking and entertaining skills. He is also the host/narrator of a new wine show on PBS, "Uncorked: Wine Made Simple,” due out this summer, and is author of "The Food You Want to Eat: 100 Smart, Simple Recipes” (Clarkson-Potter), a cookbook for beginners that features easy, all-natural recipes for everything from steak to cocktails. Allen also appears regularly as a judge on Food Network's "Iron Chef America.”
Bravo's hit reality competition series "Top Chef” offers a fascinating window into the competitive, pressure-filled environment of world-class cookery and the restaurant business at the highest level. A delight for all the senses, each episode holds two challenges for the chefs. The first is a quickfire test of their basic abilities and the second is a more involved elimination challenge designed to test the versatility and invention of the chefs as they take on unique culinary trials, such as working with unusual and exotic foods or catering for a range of demanding clients. The challenges not only test their skills in the kitchen, but also uncover if they have the customer service, management and teamwork abilities required of a "Top Chef.” The heat is on in Miami as the competing chefs live and breathe the high-pressure lifestyle that comes with being a master chef, and each week someone is asked to "pack up their knives” and go home. In addition, each week will feature a special guest judge, some of the most respected figures in the culinary industry.
"Top Chef” debuted in March 2006 to critical acclaim and ratings success, only to return with season two in August 2006, which averaged over 2 million total viewers, ranking as the top food series on cable among adults18-49. The "Top Chef” season two finale was cable's most-watched entertainment telecast of the month among adults 18-49.
Magical Elves returns to produce "Top Chef 3 Miami.” Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz, who also produced "Project Runway” and "Project Greenlight” for Bravo, return as executive producers. Shauna Minoprio also serves as executive producer.

Melinda was robbed...
At this point I am more over American Idol than I have ever been...this even tops last years ridiculous placement of Taylor "I am not doing shit with my career" Hicks making it into the final 2 (and then winning) on American Idol...
Melinda should of been in the final 2 plane and simple...I am so over Jordan I didnt like her from the beginning and I still don't so I will be routing for Blake even though America I am sure will vote Jordan as this years American Idol.
I do LOVE Blake but he just has no chance against Jordan where as if it was Melinda it would of been a serious competition and very much so UP IN THE AIR!
I wish you luck Melinda and I will be looking out for your CD that I am sure will out sell Blake's and Jordan's because thats how it always works...
Seriously!?

How can anyone support the military!?
Seriously I am so tired of people putting there lives on the line, fighting for OUR freedom, and then because they happen to be gay they have to give up EVERYTHING they have worked for and leave the job they have trained for, fought for, and loved doing...Its Bullshit and I am so tired of this country and there unfairness and inequalities for all...

The United States Navy will discharge Petty Officer Second Class Jason Knight less than one month prior to the end of his commitment, reports the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network. Knight was recalled to duty in 11 months ago and recently completed a tour in Kuwait, where he served as a Hebrew linguist. Knight was repeatedly praised by those who worked alongside and was out of the closet to his commanders and fellow officers.
Navy commanders became aware of Knight's story when he gave an interview to Stars and Stripes. The interview may be read here.
“He’s better than the average sailor at his job,” Knight's supervisor told Stars and Stripes in an interview published Sunday. “It’s not at all a strange situation. As open as he is now, it was under wraps for quite a while. It wasn’t an issue at work,” added leading petty officer Bill Driver.
The full statement by Servicemembers Legal Defense Network follows:
WASHINGTON, DC – The United States Navy has informed Petty Officer Second Class Jason Knight that it intends to fire him under the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" law just weeks prior to completing his one-year commitment. Knight, an openly gay sailor, was recalled to active duty in June 2006 and recently completed a tour of duty in Kuwait, where he was open about his sexual orientation with his command and fellow sailors. Knight told his story last weekend in the newspaper Stars & Stripes and was notified yesterday that he will be receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy based, in part, on his recent media interviews. Knight was scheduled to end his commitment on May 28, 2007, but will face early dismissal because he chose to go public about his experience.
"Jason Knight was an exemplary sailor who Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defendersy returned to active duty when our country needed him," said Sharra E. Greer, director of law and policy for Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN). "Now, despite his dedication and service, and the praise of those he served alongside, the Navy has decided to fire him because he dared to tell his story and put a public face to the courage of lesbian and gay service personnel. Our nation should be embarrassed that our armed forces are forced to respond to Knight's selfless service with a government-sanctioned pink slip. 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' silences lesbians and gays and attempts to make them invisible. Because Knight refused invisibility, he will now be fired."
Knight, a trained Hebrew linguist, was re-called to active duty and served with Naval Customs Battalion Romeo in Kuwait. He told Stars & Stripes that, having 'come out' to his command during his previous enlistment, he saw no reason to hide his sexual orientation. Many of his colleagues spoke to the newspaper in support of him. "The Navy tends to keep people who don't want to be here, but Jason does," Petty Officer 1st Class Tisha Hanson told the paper. "[I]t doesn't bother me."
"I have now spent five years in the Navy, and I have loved every minute of it," Knight said today. "It is unfortunate that in our country, which prides itself on being a beacon of liberty to the world, discrimination is still alive and well, even in our own government. I am proud to be among the one million gay veterans who have answered the call to duty, and I look forward to working alongside them to topple this un-American and counter-productive law."

Peace out
Even though most British people dislike him, I think Tony Blair did an amazing job and I would much rather have him as our president than W...ahh well thanks for nothing Tony and all the best...read below about how Tony is set to resign after being the Prime Minister of Britain for 10 years...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
LONDON - Prime Minister Tony Blair is announcing Thursday that he will resign after 10 years of leading Britain's government, a Labour party official said.
"There are a mixture of emotions today. There's disappointment and sadness that we are losing the prime minister after 10 years," said John Burton, Blair's political representative in the constituency. "But there's joy, happiness and thanks for what has been achieved."
Blair was traveling to his northern England parliamentary district to formally announce his plans. He met earlier with Cabinet members, who left No. 10 Downing Street without answering questions shouted by reporters.
Blair would leave office in late June or early July, depending on how quickly his party elects a successor — almost certain to be Treasury Chief Gordon Brown.
Burton said Blair would continue to represent Sedgefield in Parliament for the time being, but could not confirm whether he would stand down before the next national election expected in 2009 or 2010.
Blair's resignation is an announcement that his Labour Party, and the nation, have been expecting for nearly three years, ever since the prime minister said in 2004 that his third term would be his last.
"Today, the beginning of the end," read the front page of The Guardian newspaper.
Brown, who was Blair's partner in reforming the party as "New Labour" but an impatient rival in government, has already declared he will be a candidate. At least one opponent from the party's left wing was expected to announce his candidacy Thursday afternoon.
Blair's announcement was expected to trigger a contest to succeed him as leader of the governing Labour Party, and the new leader is likely to become prime minister by early July.
The Iraq war, a police investigation of allegations that the government traded honors for political contributions, and endless questions about when Blair would step down overshadowed his last term in government, after winning the third term in May 2005.
Blair has stopped short of openly endorsing Brown, a stern Scot who has long coveted the top job, but said last week that Brown would make "a great prime minister."
"One of the things I very much hope will be part of the legacy of the government is the strongest economy in the Western world which he has been responsible for," Blair said.
Blair, 54, led Labour to two landslide election wins in 1997 and 2001, and a narrower but still comfortable victory in 2005.
The first term was marked by several significant initiatives: the Bank of England was given the freedom to set interest rates, Scotland and Wales were given regional governments, London gained an elected mayor, and all put 92 hereditary members were ejected from the House of Lords.
In 1998, Blair and Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern led successful negotiations for a peace agreement in Northern Ireland, launching a process which reached its culmination earlier this week as former enemies from the Protestant and Catholic communities joined to form a new regional government.
The Iraq war severely dented Blair's popularity. Blair's close alliance with President Bush was unpopular at home, there were mass marches in Britain opposing the U.S.-led invasion before it began, and the government's claims that Saddam Hussein was building an arsenal of weapons of mass destruction proved false.
For more than a year, Labour has consistently trailed in opinion polls behind a Conservative Party revived by its new leader, David Cameron.
In local and regional elections earlier this month, Labour lost hundreds of seats in city and county councils, and was beaten into second place in the Scottish Parliament elections by the Scottish National Party, which advocates independence.
In recent months, Blair's thoughts have turned to the lessons of his decade in power.
"When I first started in politics, I wanted to please everyone," Blair said during a valedictory tour of the Middle East in December. "After a time I learned that you can't please everyone, and you learn that the best thing is to do what you think is right and everyone can make their judgment."
Go SF
This is great! Every year San Francisco Gay Pride honors one douchebag aka Gay hater with the honorary Pink Triangle award. This years winner is none other than President Geogre W Bush...this is what appears on sfpride.org! Check it out! SF Pride is the best around and I personally can NOT wait for it.
2007 PINK BRICK RECIPIENT
The Pink Brick is an annual "award" given to a person or institution that has done significant harm to the interests of LGBT peoples. This person is selected by public vote in March for receipt of the Pink Brick, a faux "award" that represents the first brick hurled at the Stonewall Rebellion on June 27, 1969.
Arnold Schwarzenegger had the Pink Brick hurled his way in 2006 for his veto of a same-sex marriage bill, and Diane Feinstein received the award in 2005 for her comment that the legalization of same-sex marriage would be "too much, too fast, too soon."
For the second time in a row, Mr. George Bush has been selected to receive the Pink Brick; he first received the award in 2003. Pride attendees this year will have the opportunity to get Bush's look-alike wet at a special Pink Brick dunk tank at the 2007 Pride Celebration.
George W. Bush
The incomparably unpopular 43rd President of the United States George W. Bush continues to push his anti-queer, anti-LGBT political agenda this year by continuing to back a Constitutional amendment that would re-define marriage as between a man and a woman. In his 2006 State of the Union address, Bush referred numerous times to the need to prevent "activist judges" from redefining civilization's "most fundamental institution": marriage. Rather than asking that judges perform their official duty to uphold the Constitution, whose very purpose is to protect minorities against majority tyranny, Bush has sought to use the phrase whenever a judicial decision is not in lockstep with conservative ideology. The Bush administration's focus on same-sex marriage has been utilized as a wedge issue to divide communities as well as to distract from his numerous policy failures in the domestic and international arenas.
Saturday my good friend Willy and I attended my buddies Alex and Lynn's Cinco De Mayo Party! It was super festive, there was tons of food (that I never ate for some wierd reason), pinata's with celebrities glued to them, and my highlight of the event was beer pong!! After 5 exhausting rounds, which I won 4 out of 5 of them, I was crowned the KING OF BEER PONG. Needless to say I was WASTED! Thank god for my amazing friends who continued to deal with my roudieness and go out with me after all that drinking. Sorry to anyone I attacked, screamed at, or trampled past on Saturday night...I LOVE YOU WEST HOLLYWOOD! HA!
Niaomi Campbell what!?
As part of her re-release of BDAY, my boo Beyonce released a DVD with videos upon videos of her songs...this is one of them and all I got to say is...NIAMOI CAMPBELL WHAT!?
What the F is Cinco De Mayo!?
Cinco de Mayo to me is just another reason to drink mexican beer and tequila all day long and get wasted. But for some reason something tells me theres a little more meaning to it...so if you care to know, which you probably don't, read below...if not grab your cocktail and mingle with friends!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The 5th of May is not Mexican Independence Day, but it should be! And Cinco de Mayo is not an American holiday, but it should be. Mexico declared its independence from mother Spain on midnight, the 15th of September, 1810. And it took 11 years before the first Spanish soldiers were told and forced to leave Mexico.
So, why Cinco de Mayo? And why should Americans savor this day as well? Because 4,000 Mexican soldiers smashed the French and traitor Mexican army of 8,000 at Puebla, Mexico, 100 miles east of Mexico City on the morning of May 5, 1862.
The French had landed in Mexico (along with Spanish and English troops) five months earlier on the pretext of collecting Mexican debts from the newly elected government of democratic President (and Indian) Benito Juarez. The English and Spanish quickly made deals and left. The French, however, had different ideas.
Under Emperor Napoleon III, who detested the United States, the French came to stay. They brought a Hapsburg prince with them to rule the new Mexican empire. His name was Maximilian; his wife, Carolota. Napoleon's French Army had not been defeated in 50 years, and it invaded Mexico with the finest modern equipment and with a newly reconstituted Foreign Legion. The French were not afraid of anyone, especially since the United States was embroiled in its own Civil War.
The French Army left the port of Vera Cruz to attack Mexico City to the west, as the French assumed that the Mexicans would give up should their capital fall to the enemy -- as European countries traditionally did.
Under the command of Texas-born General Zaragosa, (and the cavalry under the command of Colonel Porfirio Diaz, later to be Mexico's president and dictator), the Mexicans awaited. Brightly dressed French Dragoons led the enemy columns. The Mexican Army was less stylish.
General Zaragosa ordered Colonel Diaz to take his cavalry, the best in the world, out to the French flanks. In response, the French did a most stupid thing; they sent their cavalry off to chase Diaz and his men, who proceeded to butcher them. The remaining French infantrymen charged the Mexican defenders through sloppy mud from a thunderstorm and through hundreds of head of stampeding cattle stirred up by Indians armed only with machetes.
When the battle was over, many French were killed or wounded and their cavalry was being chased by Diaz' superb horsemen miles away. The Mexicans had won a great victory that kept Napoleon III from supplying the confederate rebels for another year, allowing the United States to build the greatest army the world had ever seen. This grand army smashed the Confederates at Gettysburg just 14 months after the battle of Puebla, essentially ending the Civil War.
Union forces were then rushed to the Texas/Mexican border under General Phil Sheridan, who made sure that the Mexicans got all the weapons and ammunition they needed to expel the French. American soldiers were discharged with their uniforms and rifles if they promised to join the Mexican Army to fight the French. The American Legion of Honor marched in the Victory Parade in Mexico, City.
It might be a historical stretch to credit the survival of the United States to those brave 4,000 Mexicans who faced an army twice as large in 1862. But who knows?
In gratitude, thousands of Mexicans crossed the border after Pearl Harbor to join the U.S. Armed Forces. As recently as the Persian Gulf War, Mexicans flooded American consulates with phone calls, trying to join up and fight another war for America.
Mexicans, you see, never forget who their friends are, and neither do Americans. That's why Cinco de Mayo is such a party -- A party that celebrates freedom and liberty. There are two ideals which Mexicans and Americans have fought shoulder to shoulder to protect, ever since the 5th of May, 1862. VIVA! el CINCO DE MAYO!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The 5th of May is not Mexican Independence Day, but it should be! And Cinco de Mayo is not an American holiday, but it should be. Mexico declared its independence from mother Spain on midnight, the 15th of September, 1810. And it took 11 years before the first Spanish soldiers were told and forced to leave Mexico.
So, why Cinco de Mayo? And why should Americans savor this day as well? Because 4,000 Mexican soldiers smashed the French and traitor Mexican army of 8,000 at Puebla, Mexico, 100 miles east of Mexico City on the morning of May 5, 1862.
Rough
Damn NO love from Clive Davis. Pop star KELLY CLARKSON has reportedly scrapped her new album after label bosses weren't impressed with the record. The 25-year-old singer suffered a scathing attack from Sony BMG chief Clive Davis after he heard the new tracks, reports British newspaper the Daily Star. A source at the record company tells the paper, "It was an extraordinary presentation. Clive was absolutely merciless in his criticism of Kelly. "She's one of the biggest priorities on the label and her new songs were savaged." The American Idol winner has been working on the follow up to 2005s best selling album Breakaway for 18 months, but has reportedly gone back to the studio to work on new tracks.
Poor Kelly...I really do love the new single! Hope that if they are changing things with the Album it is fucking slamming!
Sam & Spitzers
This write up was in the NY Times...click the link to check out the full article...here is the little bit about my boy Sam and his new place opening up in the Lower East Side in NYC!
SPITZER’S The name is less an attempt to make nice with the new regime in Albany than an homage to the old Lower East Side rag trade. Spitzer’s Dress Shop occupied the corner that will become the new American farm-fresh spot that Sam Talbot, above, will open in June with partners. Mr. Talbot, whose name may call to mind a women’s clothing chain with a similar name, finished in the final four of the “Top Chef” television competition last season and before that cooked at the Williamsburgh CafĂ© and at Punch: 101 Rivington Street (Ludlow Street).
